Drooling

Literally. Foaming. At. The. Mouth. Yeah, that's kind of gross. But I am about to catch the next plane to Sumter to ward off any other potential buyers of this unbelievable creation. This house will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.

Hello, lover.

Reason #1 why you'll find me perched on their lawn with a big stick and a sleeping bag. Stay away other buyers. Stay far, far away.
And, reason #2. I could do some serious sock-sliding across those hardwood floors, dontcha think?

Who needs a couch when you could rock out on a trampoline in here?

And a tiled patio for a whole sock-sliding party.

I think I'm in love.

THE END.

Our Super-Fly 'New' Furniture

Well, the movers have taken our crap. It's apparently on a ship somewhere floating across the big, blue pond, making its way over to U.S. soil. Luckily for us, we're not having to pull out the lawn chairs for our evening movie-watching marathons. Nope, the military graciously brought us some temporary furniture to use while awaiting our deportation back home. And let me tell you, it's H-O-TT. Here, see for yourself:

The oh-so comfy 'couch'. It's especially comfy with both of us crammed on there, trying to stretch out. I personally like to rest my head on the wooden arm rests.

I had to include a pretty living room shot. I think my dying palm tree adds a nice, personal touch, don't you?

I certainly don't want to seem ungrateful - I absolutely appreciate not living in an (entirely) empty house for our last month here. (Thank you, military.) But I also absolutely find the humor in our college dorm-like furniture. It does have a certain appeal though, doesn't it? I mean, I suppose if you're homeless it would.

Back to Blogging...

It's been brought to my attention that I'm a craptastic blogger. I know, I know... I honestly don't feel like I've got much to share with the world lately. Although, we have had a couple of fun goings-on in our life. As most of you know, our time here in Germany is slowly but surely coming to an end. This means many exciting changes, one being the all-important purchase of our first home together. Although buying a house in such dismal economic times makes Jen just a wee-bit nervous, I'm excited as all hell to finally be able to settle down somewhere for a while. Well, as much as a military family can "settle down somewhere" anyway. Here are several more reasons my excitment levels are soaring these days:

1. We're fortunate enough to be taking a pre-move trip to South Carolina in just 2 short weeks (!!) to find aforementioned pad.

2. South Carolina is warm(er) than dreary ol' Germany. Much warmer. Like, yesterday-it-was-a-whopping-45-degrees-warmer-than-Germany-type-warm(er).

3. We get to see the little munchkins! (*This is actually more exciting than anything, but we keep telling ourselves that it's strictly a house-hunting trip)

4. I am getting my hair did by a normal hairdresser. A normal hairdresser who will give me normal highlights. Yesssssssss.

5. My precious dollar doesn't SUCK to high hell in Los Estados Unidos.

6. We've got 4 weekends left here to do with what we please. In fact, here is a schedule of events we've got in the works:

This weekend: Family obligations

15-16 March: Paris, baby!

21-23 March: Undecided. We're looking at Garmisch (southern Germany) though...

25 March - 2 April: Civilization, I mean, we'll be in the States.

5-6 April: Seriously considering a trip over to Spain but will definitely depend on fundage.

11-13 April: LONDON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a little excited.

19-20 April: I've been informed that we'll be at the mercy of our family since that is...drum roll please...OUR LAST WEEKEND HERE!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a little excited about that, too.

7. I have, literally, 10 working days left. That is roughly 80 hours or...oh hell, I don't know how many minutes nor do I care to show off my stellar math skills in trying to figure it out. This does not include today, which technically only has roughly 1 hour and some-odd minutes left. (yay!)

Something else that made me smile today were these:

I mean, they are pink and they are shoes. What's not to get excited about? Just some randomness to break up the monontony of a post completely devoted to my boring, little life.

The Library Game

Okay, so this looked like fun and it has to be since it came from my fabulous, librarian friend, Katie Sue. Here are the rules of the game:

Rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pgs.)
2. Open the book to page 123
3. Find the fifth sentence
4. Post the next three sentences
5. Tag five people

Here's what I've got (I'm at work, okay?); from Susan B. Campbell's Behavior Problems in Preschool Children:

"In families with children who are difficult to control, mothers are more likely to function as "crisis managers" who must cope on a daily basis with a range of childrearing dilemmas and conflicts. Often fathers in such families withdraw to avoid dealing with unpleasant situations. "

Umm, okay. I guess you learn something new everyday. Not sure I actually agree with that statement but then again, I'm no doctor. I happen to be married to a fabulous guy and wonderful daddy to 2 great little kiddos - I've certainly never seen him "withdraw" from any type of situation, be it pleasant or not.

So there, Dr. Campbell. I stick my tongue out at your craptastic medical mumbo-jumbo.

And, since I haven't a clue how to 'tag' someone, I'm just going to post this and be on my merry way. Enjoy!

Playboy Mansion - Germany Style

Yes, you heard that correctly. We partied it up Saturday night as if we were cool enough to actually have been invited to a Playboy Mansion party - only, we're not nearly that cool. Instead, one of our friends hosted the shin-dig at his pad downtownl, complete with a velvet rope, bouncer, oodles of liquor (mmmm, Mojitos...), and all the Playboy reality T.V. that we could stand (not exactly enthralling, but set the mood...I guess). Of course you can't go to a Playboy party in just any ol' garb - being lame and not participating in letting it all hang out wouldn't have gotten us past the tux-adorned guy at the door. And, really, how often do you get to run around half-nekkid without getting scoffed at by passersby? It was a kick-ass par-tay and I was living proof yesterday that you really can still feel the effects of countless Mojitos (and whatever else I managed to get my little hands on...) 12 hours later. Still, totally worth it. :)

I have a hot hubby. And a penis on my straw.

Now those are 2 bad-ass bunnies

I really have no idea who these chicks are...

And it was one helluva turn out

Our hostess with the mostest. Well, host actually...but you know what I mean...

Bewbies, bewbies everywhere

Good times. :)

Comparisons...

Now that our time here in Germany is starting to come to an end, I've started to reflect on my (little over) 2 years here. It's amazing how quickly the time really does go by; at the same time, I can remember, on many occassions, longing for a lot of the 'Americanisms' that we are spoiled with over there. Don't get me wrong; I love Europe and I love the fact that we've been able to travel, see pieces of history most only read about in school books, etc., etc., BUT, there are definitely things that I miss terribly about the states. Things you don't realize you'd ever miss until you don't have them. It's bittersweet to be leaving Germany, but I'm leaning more toward being excited about landing back on U.S. soil - for good. Here is just a small compilation of all-things American that I've been dying to wrap my little hands around when we return:
  1. Target
  2. Grocery shopping at midnight if I want to. At Super Wal-Mart. Yes, Super Wal-Mart.
  3. Pay-at-the pump. (Which, from my last visit to the states, I've apparently forgotten how to do... Yes, I managed to screw that up).
  4. Shopping on Sunday (!!!)
  5. Super Wal-Mart at 2 a.m.. Even if it's just to walk in there because, well, I can.
  6. Watching T.V. shows when they're actually on and not a day later.
  7. Target
  8. Shopping Malls
  9. Parking spaces that my car actually fits in
  10. Parking garages that my car actually fits in
  11. Starbucks. On every corner.
  12. Sunshine (or just normal seasons, really)
  13. Target
  14. Normal-sized ovens (grrrrrr). Like, one that my cookie sheet will actually fit in. Strange concept, I know.
  15. Normal grocery stores - the really, really big ones with lots of stuff in every aisle
  16. The English language
  17. A garbage disposal
  18. Central A/C and/or heat
  19. A GOOD JOB
  20. The ability to start grad school at a "real" school (not limited to just the ones offered on base)
  21. Speaking of the base - Not having to drive on base for everything (gas, groceries, Post Office, gym)
  22. Have I mentioned Target? No? Well, I miss Target. And it misses me. A lot.

Okay, so I've probably painted a fairly shallow picture of myself, but really, we Americans are pretty spoiled. On the other hand though, I really will miss a lot of things about this place. Just to name a few that I've grown pretty accustomed to...

  1. Rouladen (the blinds that are built into the side of the house that cover the windows and completely black-out the house - A.W.E.S.O.M.E.)
  2. German windows.
  3. The Autobahn....ahhhhh...Seriously, Americans - stay out of the left damn lane! ;)
  4. Schnitzel. At Kaiser's.
  5. Kristallweisen (yummy German beer that I probably spelled wrong)
  6. Broetchen (bread rolls that are baked fresh everyday)
  7. H&M
  8. Houses that are (literally) indestructible (well, except in the case of a(nother) war...but we won't get into that)
  9. The overwhelmingly beautiful cities and how different one place is from the next. Driving just a couple of hours into another country always amazes me at how different the cultures are.
  10. Practicing my German (even if it is pathetic). Ja, Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutch. Although I don't spell it very well.
  11. The quaint, little towns that make up the big cities
  12. Seeing Europe (just amazing!)
  13. My FEK's!!! (inside joke) ;)
  14. Our family
  15. Our friends
  16. Tante Judith's cooking!
  17. Crazy, 'Everybody Loves Raymond'-style family gatherings. Yes, I really will miss those.

In reality, I could live here for a while longer but we're really very ready to go back. Ready to be back by the kiddos (what we miss the most!!!!!) and the rest of our family and friends, whom we miss dearly, and close this chapter of our lives. So much has happened since we've been here, a good bit of which has been unfortunate and out of our control, that starting over may be just what we need to get past some of that. We've still got a few months here and we're going to try to soak up as much of this place as we can before we go. This is home for Jeff, and I know that leaving for him is much more than just packing up and moving on... But we have so much to look forward to in the coming months and I'm sure this won't be my last reflection on "the big move".

The Reality of Real Estate...

With our return to the good ol' US of A fast approaching, we've been scouring every realty site known to man lately in search of, what could potentially be, our humble new abode. I figure what better way to share in the "joy" of our home search than to share with our family and friends? Please note my sarcasm... While we generally agree on most things home-related, our views on some things are not always in line with one another. But, it's not been as much of a headache as I initially had anticipated and we've actually come up with several that we're pretty excited about seeing in person. If all goes well, we'll be leaving on a jet plane toward the end of March (if the f$#%&'ing ticket prices ever decide to become reasonable!) to see for ourselves, what could potentially be, our very first home. :)

This Shumaker Homes beauty is located in the 'Ashbrook' subdivsion in south Sumter. The floor plan is a 'Chandler C' and looks to be exactly what we'd be looking for. No interior pics as of yet, however. And, we just don't know much about this particular area... So, we shall see.

This next one is the home that I am particularly obsessed with. I fell in love with this hot little mama's kitchen and hardwood flooring. I'm also pretty partial to the cute breakfast nook. Jeff, however, is not a fan of the "random columns"... Hmmph. I happen to like the random columns. Not sure about having neighbors in our back yard either, which, I'm afraid, will be a deal-breaker for us. Boo. Go away backyard neighbors. Let me have my fabulous kitchen! >:/
And by the way, I stole these pictures from the builder's website...
The exterior:

Some shots of my hot little kitchen... I loooove the cute sink! (Hey, it doesn't take much, OK?)

And some shots of the living/dining area with my coveted hardwood floors (note the random columns)...

And a shot of the back "yard" area...notice how there isn't a great shot of the rest (I'm assuming because there is nosy neighbor X directly behind where the picture-taker-person is standing). Grr. Still my favorite nonetheless.

And, last but certainly not least, here is one that we are actually in agreeance upon in nearly every aspect... And guess what? No neighbors in our back yard! Sweet! We're hoping this one is still available in a couple of months:

Another Shumaker Homes creation:

Some of the interior...Not 100% thrilled with carpeting, but that can be easily fixed :)

I can see myself drowning in a bottle of wine (or 2) while I turn into a little prune, here:

Since this is quite a hot topic of conversation in the Fisher household lately, I'll be frequently airing my thoughts throughout this lovely little process. Should be an interesting next couple of months. Good times.
